How to move contacts from one phone to another

Android Phone and iPhone

If you are one of those who usually manage an extensive contact book on your smartphone, perhaps you think that if you migrate to a mobile platform other than the one you were using, you may lose it or in any case have difficulties to recover it, but it is very likely that you are in error.

Managing contacts on iOS and Android

Both iOS and Android, current smartphone platforms offer very efficient contact management.

In addition, thanks to its information backup functions in the cloud, it is possible to find in each one of them the necessary options to be able to restore the contact list on a phone controlled by a different operating system.

These options can be implemented without the need to be an expert. We show you how to access them.

How to Transfer Contacts from iPhone to Android

Thanks to the integration of the iPhone’s contact book with the iCloud service, it is very easy to access it from any compatible device with an Internet connection and restore it to a new phone if necessary.

When it comes to transferring the agenda to a new iPhone, it is enough to link this device with the same iCloud account that exists on the old iPhone. Once this is done, the contact list will be synced automatically.

But the situation is somewhat different when the phone to which you are going to migrate has an Android system, however, it has a very easy solution as long as you have this device linked to a Google account. We show you step by step what you should do:

Go to your computer and open your internet browser (preferably Google Chrome).

Go to https://www.icloud.com/ and log in to this service with the same Apple ID with which you have linked your iPhone. Click Contacts. Then, open the settings menu of this tool by clicking on the gear-shaped icon located at the bottom left.

Click Select All. Return to this menu and click Export vCard.

Option to export vCard file in iCloud

Once you have downloaded this file with the VCF extension on your computer, use your Internet browser to enter the page https://contacts.google.com/. Log into this service with the same Google account associated with your new Android phone.

Then click Import Contacts (up arrow icon in the middle of the screen). Click Select File and when File Explorer opens, select the file with the VCF extension downloaded from iCloud. To finish, click Import.

When the process is complete, your iPhone contacts will have been synchronized with your Google account and therefore with your Android phone (make sure to activate the Internet connection so that there are no problems).

How to transfer contacts from Android to iPhone

In this case, there are several possibilities but the best option when what you want is to transfer information from Android to a recently purchased iPhone, that is, without having been configured for the first time, is to use the Move to iOS tool available in the Google Play Store. Check this article to know how to use it.

Now, if you want to transfer your Android contacts to an iPhone that is already working with one of your iCloud accounts, what you should do is the following:

On your iPhone, go to Settings > Contacts > Accounts. Click on Add account and select Google. Log in with your Google or Gmail account.

If this is not enough or gives you problems, you can export the existing contacts file in the Google account associated with your Android phone in the vCard format compatible with iCloud and then import it to this account.

The steps are very similar to those described in the previous section, only instead of starting with the iCloud account you must enter the Google Contacts page.
