How to add a second keyboard layout to Windows 11

Setting an additional language to the keyboard of our Windows 11 PC can be convenient in a variety of situations. One of them is when we need to write letters from a different alphabet than the one we use by default.

Another is when we need to quickly insert symbols that are not available in the original keyboard layout, for example currency symbols or arithmetic symbols.

In any case, adding a second keyboard layout to Windows 11 is a task that does not take too long. In addition, the same operating system allows you to switch between the two by executing a few simple keyboard shortcuts.

Next, we show you how to do it.

Go to Start Menu > Settings > Time and language and select Region and language.

In this section, go to Preferred languages and click Add a language.

In the Choose a language to install window, search for the language by browsing the list of options, or type the name of the language in the search box.

Then select the new language and click Next. Select the additional language features (Text to Speech, Speech Recognition, Handwriting) and click Install.

Another way to get to these same Windows 11 configuration options is to type the expression Edit language and keyboard options in the search box on the taskbar and click on this option.

After the installation of the language or other languages that you have decided to add to Windows 11, they will become part of the Preferred languages section.

To switch between keyboard layouts, simply press the Windows key plus the Space key at the same time.
