How to generate graphs using artificial intelligence – DALL-E

Every day more people come into contact with computer equipment that understands natural language, both spoken and written. This ability to understand human speech is attributed to artificial intelligence systems, among which neural network architectures stand out.

In this context, new graphic tools have emerged that generate images according to the textual descriptions of what is to be represented in the photo or image, one of the most recent being DALL-E, whose name combines that of the surrealist painter Salvador Dalí with WALL-E, the Pixar robot.

What is DALL-E?

DALL-E is an advanced version of GPT-3, the language model developed by OpenAI that gives life to its other creation: ChatGPT. As such, it has been intensively trained with millions of parameters, which are complemented by a gigantic library of images taken from the Internet and art collections.

That is why DALL-E has the ability to understand what is requested in writing and generate an image that matches what is requested. Even in strange situations, DALL-E can generate impressive combinations of shapes and colors using the elements provided by the user. It also has an editing function with which you can transform the images uploaded to your web page by following the instructions written in natural language.

On its website you can see some impressive examples of art created with DALL-E technology, ranging from a composition of Michelangelo’s sculpture adjusting headphones to images worthy of science fiction movies.

How to access DALL-E?

DALL-E works from the page https://labs.openai.com/. As it is a service implemented by OpenAI, you can access DALL-E with the same account that you use to interact with ChatGPT. And if you don’t have it yet, you can easily create it using an email account.

After entering its main interface, you will only have to make a request in natural language for DALL-E to generate the image.

However, it is not a free service, except for those registered users in its initial phases who have a package of 15 monthly credits, which in turn give the right to generate 15 images. As of April 2023, these credits are sold in packs of 115 units at the price of 15 US dollars.
