How to speed up your Windows 11 PC

To get your Windows 11 desktop or laptop back to the speed it was the day you bought it, you don’t need to reinstall the operating system.

Many times the problems of loss of speed in system startup or in running applications can be solved through simple maintenance tasks that include eliminating unnecessary programs, cleaning junk files, among others that we detail below.

Delete programs you don’t use

The slowness of a computer is frequently related to the limited amount of resources available to the system to fulfill its functions.

One way to recover them is to eliminate programs that are not used, since many times they are not stored statically on the hard drive and depending on the way they have been configured, they can work in the background making the processor work and consuming RAM memory. In addition, they take up unnecessary space on the hard drive.

To uninstall programs from Windows 11 you just have to execute the following instructions. Press the Windows + I keys to enter system settings. Then select Apps > Apps & features.

Once the list of installed applications appears, hover over the application you want to uninstall, click on the icon in the form of three vertically aligned dots and select the Uninstall option. To finish, confirm the requested action by clicking Uninstall.

Delete unnecessary system files

Unnecessary files, including temporary files generated by the system itself, take up valuable space that could be used to store other types of content, and also slow down the system’s performance.

To get rid of them you can use the built-in cleanup tool in Windows 11. Proceed as follows.

Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box. Next, type “cleanmgr” (without quotes) and click on the OK option.

Wait for the tool to calculate the number of files it can delete and when the complete list appears sorted by type, proceed to select them manually.

Manage startup programs in Windows 11

Just as there are programs configured to run in the background, that is, without the user having to start them, there are other programs configured beforehand to start up together with the system, which can cause an excessive delay in starting the latter and become a headache.

Therefore, if you notice that your Windows 11 system does not start as fast as it should, it is likely that there are programs that are interfering with the process. To fix it, do the following.

Press Windows Key + I to enter Windows 11 settings, then select Apps > Start.

The list of applications capable of launching along with the system and their impact level will immediately appear: high impact, medium impact or low impact.

After you’ve identified the ones that cause the most impact (delay) to system boot, go to the switch next to each one to put it in the Off position. That way they won’t have any impact on Windows startup.

Turn on Windows 11 Storage Sense

Storage Sense is a Windows 11 tool that automatically frees up disk space when it notices that there isn’t enough of it.

This tool deletes temporary files, files moved to the recycle bin, and unused files downloaded from the Internet. All this, without user intervention, which means a new way to optimize the operation of Windows 11.

To activate this sensor, press the Windows key + I. Then go to System > Storage. Scroll down to Storage Management and slide the slider for the Storage Sense feature to the On position.
