Enable Developer Options in TCL Google TV and Chromecast with Google TV

Developer options on the Android platform are a set of advanced features created so that application developers can run and debug their projects from the terminal itself rather than from an Android system emulator installed on the computer.

Among those functions is USB debugging, which allows the communication of the mobile device with the computer through a USB connection.

Developer options in Android remain disabled by default, waiting for developers or users with advanced knowledge to activate them according to their needs. This fact also prevents inexperienced users from manipulating the system settings and causing errors in the device’s operation.

Google TV, being an operating system for televisions designed from the Android platform, also has said set of functions, but since it does not have interoperability with the computer, the developer options have limited functionality, except for the fact that having them activated is an essential requirement to be able to install applications that do not come from the Google Play Store, for example, alternative stores such as Aptoide TV or IPTV applications.

Turn on developer options in TCL Google TV and Chromecast with Google TV

Click on the icon that represents your user profile and select Settings. As a next step, go to System > About and hover over the Android TV OS Build option.

Now press seven times in a row on that option with the OK key on the remote control. A notice on the screen will warn you that you are already a programmer. From this moment you can enable the function to install third-party apps in APK format on your TCL Google TV or Chromecast with Google TV.

How to enable unknown sources in Google TV

To carry out this procedure, you just have to go to Settings > Apps > Security and restrictions and slide the switch for the Unknown sources option to the right.

Once this is done, you will be able to install third-party applications on your TCL Google TV and Chromecast. There are several methods to do this, but the one that gives the best results is to use the Downloader app (available on the Google Play Store) and use its built-in browser to download the desired APK file from services like APKMirror.com or Apkpure.com.
