How to connect a soundbar to a Smart TV through HDMI ARC

Smart TV and JBL Soundbar

The use of the ARC HDMI to connect a soundbar to the TV ensures high definition sound when playing DVD, Blu-Ray or streaming content such as movies on Netflix.

Unlike Bluetooth technology, HDMI ARC does not compress the audio signal during the transfer from one device to another, preventing loss of quality. Also, this advantage reduces the number of cables in the installation, thanks to the associated audio feedback channel.

Here’s how easy it is to connect via HDMI ARC.

How to connect a soundbar to the TV with HDMI ARC

For the demonstration, we use a JBL 3.1 soundbar and a Sony Smart TV. The menus could be different for the other devices, but the procedure is very similar:

On the rear of the soundbar, insert one end of an HDMI cable into the ARC HDMI port.

Connect the other end of the cable to the ARC HDMI port on the TV.

Once the two devices are connected, turn them on. Use the TV remote control to select the ARC HDMI port.

The soundbar should automatically detect the HDMI connection. Otherwise, using the remote control on the soundbar, select ARC.

Now it’s time to watch a Netflix movie or YouTube video to enjoy the sound quality of your soundbar.

If your soundbar has a subwoofer, you need to connect them too. Find out more here:
