How to connect your Xiaomi phone to a Smart TV

There are many reasons that lead people to want to see the videos that they have or reach their mobile terminals on the screens of their smart televisions.

Among them, being able to appreciate more clearly non-distinguishable details very easily on a small screen, view web content that cannot be accessed with the television applications (Twitter, Tik Tok), project a video call or video conference, etc.

In many smartphone models this can be done with the help of cables, but also wirelessly. Fortunately, wireless connectivity is a common feature of every smart TV. Manufacturers such as Samsung, Sony, LG, Hisense, Sharp or TCL, among many others, complement the operating systems of their televisions with some wireless screen transmission protocol.

In models equipped with Android TV they make use of the Google Cast protocol, while in Linux-based systems or proprietary operating systems they use Miracast and AirPlay.

On the other hand, in the current models of Xiaomi smartphones based on Android such as Redmi 9, Redmi Note 10 5G, Mi 10T, the MIUI customization layer with which they are put on the market offers native support for the Google Cast and Miracast protocols. This leaves open the possibility of connecting the Xiaomi cell phone with almost any smart TV and thus being able to reflect different types of video content on the big screen. We show you how to do it.

How to mirror your Xiaomi phone to an Android TV

The inclusion of Chromecast on smart TVs equipped with the Android TV system allows them to receive video content from compatible iOS and Android mobile applications, such as YouTube, Netflix, Spotify or Disney Plus.

However, in the case of an Android-equipped Xiaomi phone, there is an additional advantage: the ability to cast the full screen. For this, do the following:

To start, turn on the smart TV and check that it is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Xiaomi phone.

Open the Google Home app on your Xiaomi smartphone (or tablet). Select the TV you want to connect to from the list of devices that appear on the screen.

To finish, tap on Cast my screen > Cast my screen.

How to mirror your Xiaomi phone to a TV using Miracast

The Miracast feature may have different names that vary depending on the make and model of the TV. It is named as Screen Mirroring in Sony Bravia, Smart View in Samsung, Screen Share in LG, Anyview Cast in Hisense. In many other brands it is simply called Screen Mirroring.

To cast the screen of your Xiaomi cell phone, do the following:

Connect your Xiaomi phone and the TV to the same Wi-Fi network.

Enable the Miracast function on the TV. Generally, this function is contained within the options of the Sources menu. Now, go to the phone and tap on Settings.

Next, tap on the Connection and sharing option and enable the Cast or Wireless display option.

Finally, select your TV from the list of devices that appear.

Does your TV not support wireless streaming?

It may happen that your smart TV model does not support the screen mirroring function. In this case, you have the option of the cable connection. Some Xiaomi models are compatible with HDMI / MHL connectivity. This requires an adapter cable that connects from the phone’s USB output to the TV’s HDMI input, including HDTVs without a Smart TV function.

To find out if your Xiaomi phone is compatible with MHL you can use the MHL Checker application.
