How to Pair Bluetooth Headphones to Nintendo Switch

If you are a user of the Nintendo Switch console, you should know that the 13.0.0 firmware update released in 2021 incorporated the long-awaited support for listening to video game audio through Bluetooth headphones.

This means being able to play without making noise or in any case enjoy a better sound experience, if we complement it with quality devices such as Apple AirPods, wireless headphones for gamers or mid-range or superior Bluetooth headphones for use in mobile phones.

Update the Nintendo Switch console

Before syncing a wireless audio accessory to the Nintendo Switch console, you need to make sure your system is updated to version 13.0.0 or later.

Typically, these types of consoles update automatically using your internet connection. Otherwise, you would have to manually download and install the required update.

To do this, go to the HOME Menu and select System Settings. Next, select Console and check the version number in the Console update section. If it is older than 13.0.0, click Console Update and wait for the process to finish. The latest version is 14.1.2 released in June 2022.

How to connect a Bluetooth headset to the Nintendo Switch console

The Nintendo Switch console allows you to add up to 10 Bluetooth audio devices, but only supports one at a time and excludes the use of microphones. It also restricts the use of more than two wireless controllers for the duration of the Bluetooth audio connection.

To add a Bluetooth headset follow these steps:

Turn on your Bluetooth headset and put it into pairing mode. Check your audio device’s instruction manual to find out how to do this.

Go to the HOME Menu on the Nintendo Switch console and select System Settings. Scroll down to the Bluetooth Audio section and select Add Device.

Wait a few moments for the console to detect nearby Bluetooth audio devices. When you see your Bluetooth headset appear on the screen, select it and wait for the pairing to complete. Once done, set the console volume to your preference.
