How to stream FLAC files from PC to iPhone

FLAC files are recognized for the audio quality they offer. FLAC is actually an audio compression format used to save the audio tracks of a compact disc without losing quality.

For this reason, copies made in MP3 format offer much more comfortable listening. And what better if they are heard from the iPhone, a benchmark in high-quality audio reproduction.

However, storing it on the iPhone is usually not very intuitive. iTunes does not support FLAC and therefore the iPhone does not do it natively either. There are methods that use third-party apps and the iTunes sync function, however, the easiest way to listen to FLAC files on iPhone is to play them from the local network using streaming technology. In this case, using a Windows computer as a DLNA-certified multimedia content server, so that the files to be shared can also be played by other devices on the local network.

Fortunately, Windows 11 integrates this function and supports the FLAC audio format. By the way, it is very easy to activate. We show you how to do it.

Click Start. In the search box type “control panel” (without quotes). When the Control Panel app appears, click Open.

In that window, go to Network and Internet > Sharing Center. Then, click Media Streaming Options.

In this new window, you will be able to view all the devices on your local network capable of playing multimedia content using the DLNA protocol. If they are trusted devices, leave their boxes in the Allowed option. Otherwise, uncheck their boxes.

By default, the contents of the Music folder will be shared. Therefore, copy your FLAC files to that folder so that you can play them from iPhone.

As a next step, download and install the Flacbox application on your iPhone, a versatile music player that supports FLAC files and network playback. It is available from the App Store

To play FLAC files saved on your PC with Flacbox, open the application and tap Connections. Under Cloud Services, identify your computer and click on it. Next, select the Music folder and you can play the content in FLAC or any other audio format used.
