How to hide your wifi network from PC

Home Wi-Fi networks are made up of the signals transmitted by a router. This device is in charge of providing Internet connection and at the same time interconnecting the different devices that make up the network. And in order to be identified, it has a default name for the network on which it broadcasts, generally associated with its brand, but which can be changed to something else from the configuration settings.

This is the normal way to access a Wi-Fi network, of course, always protected with a password and visible from anywhere within coverage range. However, for whatever reason, it can be configured to work in stealth mode, that is, without making your network name, also known as SSID, visible to any other wireless device user.

How to hide your Wi-Fi network from others

It all consists of accessing the router configuration panel and hiding the SSID. In general, the method to be used is very similar for all brands. As an example, we show you the steps to follow in a Huawei HG8145V5 router.

Connect to the Wi-Fi network from your PC or mobile device and type the address 192.168.100.1 in the address bar of the browser (in other router models this address is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).

The router settings access window will open immediately. Fill in the User name and Password boxes and click Login. To get this information, check the base of the router casing. Usually it is root and adminHW.

Once you are in the settings screen, go to Settings > WLAN, and for each of the available networks that operate in the 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHZ band, uncheck the Enable SSID box.

From now on, your Wi-Fi network will not be visible within its coverage area, that is, it will not appear in the list of available networks of any wireless device. Therefore, if you want to establish a connection with the router, it will have to be done manually, by entering the network name that you have hidden and the password.
