How to apply the Bokeh effect with your phone

What is the Bokeh effect?

The Bokeh effect is a photographic technique that emerged from wide-aperture cameras, which allow you to capture images with an artistically blurred background while the main subject remains in focus. Wide aperture cameras represent the ideal equipment to achieve pronounced and visually attractive Bokeh effects, given their ability to isolate the main subject from the background of the image.

However, it can also be applied using software with excellent results. For this, there is no better equipment than cell phones equipped with multi-lens cameras and advanced image processing software, which occurs in the iPhone and many ranges of phones with Android system.

We show you how to apply Bokeh to the captures you take with your smartphone.

How to apply the Bokeh effect from iPhone

The Bokeh effect is applied on the iPhone only with photos captured in Portrait mode. Therefore, once you have captured the image in portrait mode, open it and press the Edit button.

Next, adjust the intensity or depth of the Bokeh effect by sliding the lower bar. When you have finished configuring this setting, click on the Done button, located at the top right of the screen.

To finish, click on the photo editor menu icon and select the appropriate option: Copy, Duplicate, Hide, Slideshow, Add to Album, Set Date and Time, or Set Location.

How to apply Bokeh effect from an Android phone

On Android phones there is no single system to achieve the Bokeh effect with photographs, however, the Google Photos app has among its editing tools an adjustable level blur tool that you can adjust according to the Bokeh effect that you intend to achieve with a specific photography.
