The trick to listen to the sound of a Roku on a Bluetooth speaker

The Roku entertainment platform that includes Roku streaming devices and Roku TVs manufactured by AOC, TCL or Hisense integrates the latest audio technologies, so in the case of streaming movies or music in high quality you can require better definition speakers than the ones that the television brings.

This can be solved in some way by connecting the Roku TV to a sound bar or home theater equipment, but in the absence of these, the portable Bluetooth speakers with which we usually listen to music in any corner of the house or in our outdoor outings. Brands like JBL, Bose, Denon, Sony or JVC, among many others, make Bluetooth speakers with good power and the ability to satisfy the most demanding ears.

However, there is one detail to keep in mind: devices based on the Roku system, with the exception of the Roku Streambar model, do not support Bluetooth connections. But this deficiency can be solved with the ability of the Roku platform to wirelessly transmit the audio that should be output on the TV to headphones connected to the remote controls with which it is compatible.

Both the original remote control for various Roku models and the Roku mobile app, available for iOS and Android, support Headphone Listening or Private Listening, designed for undisturbed listening to Roku channels.

How to send sound from Roku or Roku TV to a Bluetooth speaker

For this trick it will be enough to use the official Roku mobile application from a phone connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Roku device.

The next step is to have the smartphone connected to a Bluetooth speaker, instead of headphones.

The rest of the process is very simple, you just have to tune to a Roku channel and once the content starts playing on the TV, press the headphone-shaped icon of the mobile application. Immediately the audio from the Roku device will be streamed to the Bluetooth speaker.

If you haven’t already downloaded the Roku mobile app to your smartphone, you can do so from the App Store or Google Play Store for iPhone or Android respectively.
